Maha: Mango, cashew farmers from Konkan to march to Chief Minister’s residence over “meagre aid”

Mumbai, Apr 18 (UNI) Angered by what they call inadequate financial assistance from the BJP-led Maharashtra government, mango and cashew growers from the coastal Konkan region today announced that they will take out a protest march to the Chief Minister’s official residence, ‘Varsha’, in south Mumhai at the end of this month.
Farmers leader Raju Shetti met key political figures in Mumbai—including MNS president Raj Thackeray, state Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal and NCP (SP) state chief Shashikant Shinde—to seek their support and participation in the protest.
For the past two months, farmers in the Konkan belt have been struggling with severe crop losses caused by natural and external factors. They have been demanding compensation of Rs 5 lakh per hectare for mango crops and Rs 3 lakh per hectare for cashew plantations. However, the state government has announced only Rs 22,000 per hectare, a move that has triggered widespread anger among growers.
