Maha Legislature approves controversial public safety measure

Mumbai, July 10 (UNI) The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly passed the State Public Safety Bill by majority vote today, granting authorities expanded powers to combat urban Naxalism and anti--democratic organisations.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis introduced the legislation, which was cleared in the house despite opposition from lone Dahanu MLA Vinod Nikha.
The bill's approval follows extensive revisions incorporating recommendations from a Joint Committee that reviewed 12,500 public suggestions after initial tabling in December 2024.
