Maha: BJP leader Raj K. Purohit passes away; popular figure in Mumbai’s Hindi-speaking and Rajasthani community

Mumbai, Jan 18 (UNI) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, former Maharashtra minister and five-time MLA Raj K. Purohit passed away late Saturday night at Bombay Hospital here after a prolonged illness. He was a widely respected and popular figure in Mumbai’s Hindi-speaking population and the Rajasthani community.
His last rites were performed on Sunday afternoon at Chandanwadi Sonapur crematorium with full state honours and a 21-gun salute. Following the news of his demise, a wave of grief swept through political circles, the Hindi literary fraternity and the Rajasthani community in Mumbai.
Purohit’s mortal remains were kept for public homage at his residence on J Road, Marine Drive, where party workers, social leaders and well-wishers gathered to pay their last respects.
