Machine Gun Kelly declines 'Sinners' audition over use of racial slur

Los Angeles, Aug 4 (UNI) American rapper Machine Gun Kelly has revealed that he declined an audition for Ryan Coogler's vampire drama 'Sinners' after refusing to deliver a racially offensive line during the casting process.
Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, the rapper-turned-actor shared he had been approached to try out for the role of a vampire named Bert, a former Ku Klux Klan member who becomes undead. However, upon learning the dialogue for the scene included a racial epithet, he immediately withdrew, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
“There’s been plenty of movies that come out that I was like, ah, I was supposed to be in that, or I did auditions for that. Like Sinners, I was supposed to be in that,” he explained. “The vampire, they had me set up to do the audition — it’s the one that’s in the house, so he’s the second vampire, the one that the guy comes and eats the family. In the audition, he has to say the N-word and I wouldn’t do it.”
The role ultimately went to Peter Dreimanis. Coogler's 'Sinners', which features Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld and Miles Caton, went on to become a surprise box-office breakout. The film follows twin brothers who return to their hometown in an attempt to leave their troubled lives behind, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting back home.
Despite Sinners not working out for Kelly, the “Cliché” artist still has “a lot of aspirations to be in movies.” While “it just hasn’t panned out that way” yet, Kelly knows he’s “on universal timing. It’ll align. The angels will put something in the works.”
However, he would prefer “to be in cinema while I still look young,” quipping, “I would really like to be recruited into a movie while I still got some looks.”
