LS Speaker Om Birla writes to party leaders urging MPs to uphold dignity of Parliament

‎New Delhi, March 15 (UNI) ‎Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has written to leaders of all political parties in the Lok Sabha, urging them to ensure discipline and uphold the dignity of Parliament amid concerns over the conduct of some members inside the House and within the Parliament complex.
‎In a letter sent on Sunday, the Lok Sabha Speaker said recent incidents involving the display of banners and placards, as well as the use of inappropriate language and behaviour, had raised serious concerns about the standards of parliamentary conduct. He called for collective reflection and stronger efforts by party leadership to maintain decorum in the country’s highest democratic institution.
‎“Parliament of India is the supreme democratic institution representing the sovereign aspirations of 1.4 billion citizens of the country. Every voice expressed in Parliament represents the hopes, aspirations and expectations of millions of people,” Birla wrote, adding that the Parliament complex should be regarded as “a sacred place” where debate, dialogue and diverse viewpoints are expressed within the framework of dignity and respect.
