Local bodies play a vital role in the growth of Kerala: LSG and Excise Minister M B Rajesh

Kannur, Feb 18 (UNI) Kerala Minister for Local Self Government and Excise, M B Rajesh, has said local bodies play a vital role in the State's growth, while inaugurating the State-Level Local Government Day celebration at Mangattuparamba, here on Wednesday.
Minister Rajesh said Kerala's achievements are the result of joint efforts by the State government and local self-governments, underscoring the importance of decentralisation in ensuring inclusive development. Empowering grassroots institutions with adequate resources has helped Kerala stand out nationally, he added, noting that local bodies function as true local governments.
Rajesh highlighted increased financial devolution: Rs 29,500 crore was allocated to local bodies from 2011-12 to 2015-16, Rs 52648 crore from 2016-17 to 2020-21, and Rs 70526 crore from 2021-2026. He claimed Kerala provides the highest allocation to local bodies in the country.
