Liam Hemsworth debuts as monster slayer Geralt of Rivia in Netflix teaser for S4, receives mixed reception

Los Angeles, Sep 14 (UNI) As Netflix gears up for the fourth season of its dark fantasy series 'The Witcher', it released a teaser showcasing actor Liam Hemsworth stepping into the shoes of series protagonist Geralt of Rivia after Henry Cavill departs from the series post Season 3.
The teaser - while not much on details - shows the titular monster slayer facing off against a wraith, and defeating it in combat, announcing the release date as October 30.
The actor will continue to don the mantle of the renowned monster slayer for the last two seasons of the show, which, according to showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, were filmed back-to-back.
It received a highly mixed reception by fans, who remained sceptical over the show's direction, and lambasted the poor CGI, and editing, but were more reserved on the actor, noting that he had some very big shoes to fill while being in a very difficult position.
Netflix, releasing the series synopsis wrote: "After the continent-altering events of Season 3, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies.
"As their paths diverge and their goals sharpen, they stumble on unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. And if they can accept these found families, they just might have a chance at reuniting for good."
Liam was noted for his remarkable similarity to his brother Chris Hemsworth in appearance, with many netizens remarking that the Marvel superhero Thor, had entered the Continent (the world where the show takes place).
Fans were more critical of the stark difference in the voices of the two actors, as Liam's voice was much less gravelly and lighter, in contrast to Cavill, who modelled his own Geralt voice on the performance of Doug Cockle – the voice actor of the character in the highly acclaimed games – and thus sounded gruff and stoic, as the character is supposed to sound like.

Cavill – who was widely noted to be the heart and soul of the show, and its biggest attraction – announced his departure from the production in 2022, much to the shock of fans who decried the writing team for sidelining the 'Man of Steel' actor due to his commitment to sticking to the source material, which he said was increasingly being discarded.
Former writers of the series also confirmed that Cavill, much like some other members of the writing team had become disillusioned with the show due to its complete departure from author Andrez Sapokowski's books.
The actor- who himself is a big nerd, and read the books and played the games in preparation for the role- had already hinted at his own refusal to don the wolf medallion anymore, as the show's direction no longer felt right.
The main cast members returning to the show include Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Princess Cirilla of Cintra, and Joey Batey as Jaskier/Dandelion.
They will be joined by a sprawling ensemble that features Laurence Fishburne (Regis), Eamon Farren (Cahir), Anna Shaffer (Triss Merigold), Mimî M Khayisa (Fringilla), Cassie Clare (Philippa), Mahesh Jadu (Vilgefortz), Meng'er Zhang (Milva), Graham McTavish (Dijkstra), Royce Pierreson (Istredd), Mecia Simson (Francesca), Sharlto Copley (Leo Bonhart), Danny Woodburn (Zoltan), among others.
The series – which became extremely popular worldwide after the great success of the CD Projekt Red action-RPG game Witcher 3 – is based on the books by Polish author Andrez Sapkowski.
While the first three seasons adopted elements from books such as 'The Last Wish', 'Blood of the Elves', seasons 4 and 5 will adopt storylines from 'Baptism of Fire', 'The Tower of Swallow' and 'Lady of the Lake'.
