Lewis Pullman eyes role opposite father Bill in 'Spaceballs' sequel

Los Angeles, June 13 (UNI) Nearly a decade after his on-screen debut alongside his father in 'The Ballad of Lefty Brown', Lewis Pullman is poised to reunite with Bill Pullman in the sequel to 'Spaceballs', the cult-classic sci-fi satire.
Since then, Lewis has carved a distinct identity in the film industry, delivering compelling performance in 'Top Gun Maverick' and Marvel's forthcoming 'Thunderbolts' and earning critical acclaim including an Emmy nomination, for his role in 'Lessons in Chemistry'.
His father, Bill Pullman, played the role of Lone Starr in the original "Spaceballs" (1987), a parody of "Star Wars" and other sci-fi hits.
The sequel, currently under development at Amazon MGM Studios, is being crafted for a theatrical release in 2027. Josh Greenbaum is directing from a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez and Josh Gad, the latter who is also starring along with Keke Palmer. Brooks returns as the Yoda-esque character Yogurt. Also expected to return to their roles are Rick Moranis and Daphne Zuniga.

Insiders reveal that Lewis Pullman is being considered for the role of Starburst, the son of Lone Starr and Queen Vespa (Zuniga), suggesting a generational handover within the film's mythology. Keke Palmer is set to play a character named Destiny, with Gas rounding out the central trio, according to an exclusive story by The Hollywood Reporter.
One has to comb the desert to find plot details, but Amazon amiably describes the new project this way: “While the title, plot details, and rest of cast are being kept under wraps, the film has been described by those who have not yet read the script as ‘A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two’ but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.”
Producers on the film include Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, Gad, Brooks and Greenbaum. Kevin Slater, Adam Merims, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez will executive produce.
Pullman spent years wanting his acting career to be totally separate from his relationship from his father, but in recent times has changed his philosophy. As he told THR last month: “For a long time, I was like, ‘I’m gonna do this on my own and was very stubborn, and I’m so glad that I got over whatever that was because now it’s such a gift to be able to share different experiences with my dad and get advice from him.”
