Lebanon Foreign Minister Raji confirms rejecting Iran's invite to Tehran due to hostility over Iranian backing of Hezbollah

Beirut/Tehran, Dec 10 (UNI) Lebanon's Foreign Minister Youssef Raji confirmed that he rejected Iran's latest invitation to Tehran for holding bilateral talks, amid Beirut's hostility towards Iran over its continued funding and sponsorship of Hezbollah, even as Lebanese authorities have intensified their crackdown on the Iran-backed militia, in a bid to confiscate the militant group's weapons arsenal by 2026.
Raji, taking to X stressed that declining the visit "does not mean rejecting discussion," and invited Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to meet instead in "a neutral third country to be agreed upon".
He added that while Beirut was ready to begin "a new phase of constructive relations" with Iran, it has to be one based on "mutual respect" and "absolute respect for the independence and sovereignty of each country" without any-state interference "under any pretext".
