Labour movement must shift from Protest to Empowerment, says Jyoti Savardekar

Pune, July 15 (UNI) State President of the Bharatiya Janata Mazdoor Cell (BJMC), Jyoti Savardekar, has called for a fundamental shift in the country's labour movement from traditional struggles for wages and service conditions towards empowering workers through skill development, education, healthcare, and economic awareness.
In a statement, Savardekar said the Indian labour movement has historically seen a fight for dignity, social justice, and economic self-respect. However, over time, political interests have overshadowed workers' concerns, with power equations often taking precedence over the welfare of labourers.
She expressed concern over the growing divisions among workers based on caste, religion, language, and region, saying such identities should never outweigh the value of labour. "A worker is not defined by the state he belongs to, but by the contribution he makes to the nation's progress," she said.
