Kumaraswamy blames Cong for farmer suicides

Mandya, Dec 16 (UNI) union Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday flayed the Karnataka Congress government for the ongoing agrarian crisis, claiming that 2,800 farmers have committed suicide since the party assumed power. He spoke at the 1066th Jayanthi celebrations of Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji in Malavalli, Mandya district.
Kumaraswamy said the government has failed to fulfil its promises to farmers. He pointed out that while the administration had pledged Rs 24,000 crore in loans for 32 lakh farmers, only about Rs 12,000 crore has been distributed to 24 lakh farmers so far, essentially maintaining the same level of support as before by manipulating the accounts.
He added that these figures reveal the administration’s shortcomings and that corruption is widespread, but he declined to provide specifics, saying he would share more details after December 20.
