Killer syrup: ED raids 7 locations, TN Govt cancels licence & orders closure of pharma firm

Chennai, Oct 13 (UNI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today launched coordinated searches at the offices and residential premises of officials of Tamil Nadu Drug Control Department and Sreesan Pharma as part of a money laundering probe following the deaths of 24 children due to the killer cough syrup, Coldrif, in Madhya Pradesh.
In the wake of this tragic incident, the Tamil Nadu Government has cancelled the licence of the company and ordered its closure.
The searches were carried out at seven places in Chennai and neighbouring Kancheepuram district where the company’s manufacturing facility is located. Earlier, the state government had suspended two senior Drug Inspectors of Kancheepuram district for alleged failure to carry out inspections at Sreesan Pharma.
