Kharge, Rahul extend I-Day greetings, emphasise democratic values and unity

New Delhi, Aug 15 (UNI) On the occasion of Independence Day, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi today extended greetings to the nation, paying tribute to the country's freedom fighters and reaffirming their commitment to the values enshrined in the Constitution.
Mallikarjun Kharge, while extending his greeting in a post on X, emphasised the ongoing struggle to uphold constitutional principles in contemporary India.
"We pay humble tribute to the countless great freedom fighters, remembering their sacrifices and invaluable contributions to the national movement. Today is significant because we, the people of India, are now fighting for our rights — for the protection of constitutional institutions, social justice, economic empowerment, and brotherhood," he said.
He also called upon citizens to unite in safeguarding the interests of every Indian and carrying forward the spirit of the freedom struggle.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi echoed similar sentiments, reminding citizens of the moral foundation of India’s independence.
"This hard-earned freedom, attained through the sacrifices of our great freedom fighters, is a pledge to build a nation where justice stands on the foundation of truth and equality, and every heart holds respect and brotherhood," he said.
Gandhi urged citizens to uphold the honour of India’s legacy, calling it a “collective duty to protect the pride and values of this priceless inheritance.”
