Kharge, Rahul call for unity, peace on Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura Foundation Day

New Delhi, Jan 21 (UNI) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday extended warm greetings to the people of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura on their Foundation Day, underlining the Northeastern states’ contributions to nation-building and calling for peace, harmony and inclusive progress.
In messages posted on social media, the two senior Congress leaders highlighted the rich cultural diversity, history and resilience of the three states, which attained statehood on January 21, 1972, following the reorganisation of the then undivided Assam.
“Warm greetings to the people of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura on your Foundation Day,” Kharge said in a post on X. Reflecting on more than five decades of statehood, he added, “Over the past 54 years of statehood, these beautiful states, blessed with breathtaking natural magnificence, rich diversity, and an enduring spirit of ingenuity, have made invaluable contributions to the building of our nation.”
