Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar was on Thursday sworn in as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.,
Madras High Court Chief Justice S A Dharmadhikari administered the oath of office to Mr Arlekar at a simple function held at Lok Bhavan.
Chief Minister M K Stalin, Ministers, and leaders of various political parties took part in the swearing-in ceremony.
Mr Arlekar, who had been serving as Governor of Kerala, has been given additional charge as TN Governor after incumbent R N Ravi was posted as West Bengal Governor, ending his 54 onths tumultous tenure
Upon his posting as West Bengal Governor, Mr Ravi left Chennai yesterday after being accorded a Guard of Honour by the State police at the airport.
Soon after the Centre announced his posting to West Bengal, Mr Stalin called on Mr Ravi and official sources described the meeting as a courtesy call.
Mr Stalin extended his greetings to Mr Ravi and also presented him with a statuette of Tamil saint-poet Tiruvalluvar.
In his farewell message to the people of the State, Mr Ravi said he was carrying back Golden memories from the people of the state.
Mr. Ravi assumed office as the 26th Governor of Tamil Nadu on September 18, 2021.
The four-and-a-half year tenure of Mr Ravi was the most tumultous tenure as both the Raj Bhavan and the ruling DMK were at loggerheads on a host of issues.
Apart from drawing ire for the delay in granting assent to Bills adopted in the State Legislature, the Governor had skipped mentioning references about the term 'Dravidam' also desisted from reading the full text of his customary New year Address to the State Assembly which was prepared by the state government and had also staged walk outs from the House citing non-recital of National Anthem at the commencement of the session.
The delay in clearing the Bills prompted the state to knock the doors of the Supreme Court which had condoned the delay and ruled that all the Bills were deemed to have received his assent.
He was also accused of spreading the RSS ideology following controversies over Sanatana Dharma and the DMK also went to extent of demanding his recall.
