Kathryn Hahn may star as mother gothel in ‘Tangled’ remake

Los Angeles, Jan 9 (UNI) Kathryn Hahn may be returning to the Disney villain spotlight. Variety reports that the Agatha All Along star is in talks to play the iconic ‘Mother Gothel’ in Disney’s live-action adaptation of ‘Tangled’.
If confirmed, Hahn would join Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. In the original 2010 animated film, ‘Mother Gothel’ poses as an overprotective guardian to Rapunzel while secretly using the girl’s magical hair to maintain her youth and beauty. Disney has not commented on the casting.
The film will be directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) and produced by Kristin Burr (Freaky Friday, Cruella) from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Someone Great, Do Revenge, I Know What You Did Last Summer). Production is set to begin later this year.
The original ‘Tangled’ grossed nearly USD 600 million worldwide and featured the voices of Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Brad Garrett, and Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel.
Hahn is currently enjoying a high-profile run with Apple TV ’s awards contender The Studio, playing the foul-mouthed marketing executive Maya Mason. This followed her Disney role as Agatha Harkness in the WandaVision spinoff Agatha: Coven of Chaos. She will next appear in Madden, David O. Russell’s John Madden biopic starring Christian Bale, Nicolas Cage, Sienna Miller, and John Mulaney.
Her previous notable work includes Mrs. Fletcher, Tiny Beautiful Things, and Transparent.
