Kashmir parties ready to observe 'martyrs day' on July 13

Srinagar, July 10 (UNI) Despite being dropped from the official holiday calendar, the two major political parties in Jammu and Kashmir-- National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party -- have started preparations for observing 'Martyrs day' on July 13.
Before Article 370 abrogation in 2019, July 13 was observed as 'Martyrs Day' in erstwhile J&K state and top J&K government officials, including the then Governor, would join political parties in paying tributes to those killed in 1931. After 2019 J&K government headed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha removed the ‘Martyrs Day’ from the official holiday calendar of the government.
Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today unanimously resolved to visit the martyrs’ graveyard at Naqshband Sahib in Old Srinagar on July 13 to pay tribute to 22 Kashmiri civilians who were killed by Dogra troops on this day in 1931.
