Karnataka Vidhana Soudha: An insight into 70-year-old 'People's Palace'

Bengaluru, March 13 (UNI) After 70 years, Karnataka's iconic Vidhana Soudha — the majestic 'People's Palace' — is finally open to the public. For decades, its grand corridors, pillarless Assembly Hall, and imposing grand steps were visible only from the outside. Now, history buffs, architecture lovers, and curious travelers can walk inside and witness the building where India's post-independence democracy was shaped.
J Gnanashekhar, veteran guide and custodian of the palace's stories, says, "Seeing people's reactions when they enter the Assembly Hall is priceless. This was Kengal Hanumanthaiah's dream, supported over the years by leaders like U.T. Khader and facilitated through the Speaker's Office under K.G. Boppaiah.
"In fact, it was Boppaiah, the former Karnataka Speaker, who issued an official order to create the position that allowed me to serve as the guide for this historic building. Now it is alive for the people."
