Karnataka opposes Maharashtra's TET language rule

Bengaluru, July 13 (UNI) A fresh language dispute has erupted between Karnataka and Maharashtra after the Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha (KVS) strongly opposed Maharashtra’s reported decision to make Marathi compulsory for Kannada-medium teachers appearing for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).
The Kannada organisation has termed the move “discriminatory” and alleged that it undermines the rights of Kannada-speaking communities in Maharashtra’s border regions. The outfit warned that the decision could weaken Kannada-medium education and demanded immediate intervention from the Centre.
Passing a resolution at its special executive committee meeting, the KVS accused the Maharashtra government of violating National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) norms by forcing Kannada-medium teachers to take the eligibility examination in Marathi.
