Karnataka Lok Adalats clear 11 lakh cases in four days, save Rs 1,022 crore

Bengaluru, Apr 20 (UNI) Karnataka’s Lok Adalats have once again demonstrated how alternative dispute resolution mechanisms can drastically reduce case backlogs, even as concerns persist over the need for sustained government investment in the justice system.
Speaking at the 22nd Biennial State Level Conference of the Karnataka State Judicial Officers Association here, Supreme Court Judge Aravind Kumar drew a sharp comparison between regular court proceedings and Lok Adalat disposals, noting that what would otherwise take years in the conventional system was achieved in just four days.
He said that while regular courts typically dispose of around 95,000 cases over a three-month period, averaging four to five cases per judge per day, the last four National Lok Adalats disposed of over 11.09 lakh cases in just four days.
