Karnataka govt withdraws CID probe in Ranya Rao case

Bengaluru, Mar 12 (UNI) In a dramatic turn of events in the high-profile gold smuggling case involving actress Ranya Rao, the Karnataka government on Wednesday withdrew the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe, raising fresh concerns over political influence and internal discord within the administration.
According to a revised order, Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta is already leading an inquiry into the possible involvement of Ranya’s stepfather, K Ramachandra Rao, a senior police officer.
The move is expected to intensify political tensions, with the BJP and JD(S) likely to question whether the state government is attempting to shield influential figures or recalibrate its approach to the case.
