Karnataka CM slams Centre over farmers' injustice

Bengaluru, Nov 6 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today accused the central government of doing "injustice" to the state's sugarcane farmers, asserting that it was "playing tricks" with them amid ongoing protests in Belagavi demanding higher prices for their produce.
Speaking after a Cabinet meeting, the CM highlighted the political and economic dimensions of the crisis. "Both Congress and BJP are the owners of the sugar factories. BJP leaders are mostly the owners. I have called a meeting with the factory owners tomorrow. I have called a meeting with the farmers. Seventy-seven percent of Gujarat has allowed the production and sale of ethanol, while we have only allowed 17 pc," he said, pointing to policy gaps that have affected farmers' income.
Siddaramaiah said the fixed-rate price for sugarcane is determined by the central government, while the state only implements it, leaving farmers vulnerable to price inadequacies. The protesting growers have demanded a support price of Rs 3,500 per quintal to cover rising input costs and financial hardships.
