Karnataka calls emergency Cabinet meet as drought deepens

Bengaluru, July 18 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday convened an emergency Cabinet meeting for Sunday as the state grapples with an intensifying drought, declaring that all available reservoir water has been earmarked exclusively for drinking purposes and warning that no water can be spared for irrigation until storage levels improve.
The high-level meeting, scheduled for 3 pm, comes amid mounting concerns over rainfall deficiency, depleting reservoirs and growing rural distress across Karnataka.
Announcing the decision at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar said the Cabinet would formulate the state's immediate drought response after reviewing the ground situation with Deputy Commissioners and Chief Executive Officers of Zilla Panchayats through a virtual meeting.

APCC demands categorization of BCs on their population radio

Vijayawada, Aug 19 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) here on Wednesday demanded that BCs should be categorised based on their population ratio before implementing enhanced reservations in local bodies.
Addressing a press conference, APCC Vice-president Kolanukonda Shivaji pointed out that BCs have 25% reservation in education and employment-7% for BC-A, 10% for BC-B, 1% for BC-C and 7% for BC-D and demanded that political reservations should also follow the same pattern and that the principle should be applied to the 2.69 crore BC population in Andhra Pradesh.
