Josh Charles hopes on the drama 'The 99'ers'

Los Angeles, Apr 13 (UNI) Actor Josh Charles has been added to the cast of Netflix’s upcoming drama "The 99’ers", a project centred on the landmark victory of the 1999 U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team.
Specifics about Charles’ role have been kept under wraps. Charles joins an ensemble led by Zoey Deutch, which also includes Emily Bader, Emilia Jones, Alessandro Nivola, Julia McDermott, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Perry Mattfeld, Annabel O’Hagan, Lizzy Greene, and Isabelle Fuhrman, reports DEADLINE.
Based on the 2000 HarperPerennial book The Girls of Summer: The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team and How It Changed the World by Jeré Longman, The 99’ers watches as the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team defies the odds to emerge victorious in a dramatic penalty kick shootout against China in the World Cup final, under the scorching summer sun and in a stadium filled with 93,000 fans. This monumental win captivated millions worldwide and forever altered the course of women’s sports.
The show is directed by Nicole Kassell, with a script by Katie Lovejoy, Dana Stevens, and Peter Hedges. The project’s early development was overseen by Jill Mazursky and Jamee Decio.
Liza Chasin is producing for 3Dot Productions, under the company’s deal with the streamer, alongside Hayley Stool and Ross Greenburg, with Marla Messing, Jill Mazursky, and Krista Smith exec producing.
A Golden Globe and two-time Emmy winner known to many for roles on shows like "The Good Wife" and "The Handmaid’s Tale", Charles can currently be seen headlining Fox’s series "Best Medicine", which has been renewed for a second season. UNI NST CDS
