Jet Fuel storage facility to come up in Adani's Thiruvananthapurm Airport

Thiruvananthapuram, July 17 (UNI) A state-of-the-art Jet Fuel Storage facility, equipped with a unique hydrant refueling system that enables faster, safer, and more efficient aircraft refueling, will be unveiled at Adani Group's Thiruvananthapuram International Airport within 24 months.
A release from Adani said that the airport has achieved a transformative milestone with the commissioning of its Open Access Fuel Farm and Aircraft Refueling Facility - a move poised to redefine operational efficiency and sustainability standards in Indian aviation.

The newly commissioned facility has been developed through the strategic acquisition of existing assets from multiple Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) operating at TRV airport.
The Open Access model brings multiple advantages including Enhanced competition, Cost efficiency and Operational optimisation.
New entrants among fuel marketers can now access the airport without infrastructure investment barriers. A shared infrastructure system eliminates duplication and ensures lower cost of operations for all stakeholders. The hydrant system reduces turnaround time, enhancing overall airport throughput. It reduces refueling time drastically.

The launch of the Open Access Fuel Farm is a cornerstone in our vision to transform Thiruvananthapuram International Airport into a future-ready aviation hub. This facility exemplifies innovation, operational excellence, and our commitment to supporting a greener and more efficient aviation ecosystem.
The Open Access Fuel farm positions Thiruvananthapuram International Airport among the few airports in India adopting progressive fuel infrastructure models- paving the way for increased airline choice, market competitiveness, and improved environmental performance.

The Open Access Fuel Farm is a common fuel storage and supply system that allows multiple oil marketing companies to provide aviation fuel through a shared infrastructure.
Airlines benefit from greater choice and competitive pricing, while the system eliminates infrastructure redundancy, enhances safety, and supports sustainability goals by reducing emissions from fuel transportation and handling.
Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, with a rich history of over 90 years, is spread over 6 acres and holds the distinction of being Kerala’s second busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic, managing 4.9 million passengers in FY2024-25 and catering to nearly 100 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) every day.

With a ‘digital-first’ philosophy, the airport offers every passenger seamless experience, driven by state-of-the-art technology, infrastructure and operational excellence. The airport manages air cargo in excess of 25,000 metric tons per annum.

In 2024, the airport was the first amongst the Indian Airports to achieve the accolade of Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII-ITC) Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development. The airport won the Best Airport at Arrivals Award instituted by the Airport Council International (ACI) in 2023.
