Jennifer Connelly joins Ana de Armas in talks for 'Safe Houses' series

Los Angeles, Feb 11 (UNI) Apple’s upcoming international espionage drama 'Safe Houses' is assembling a high-profile cast, with Ana de Armas and Jennifer Connelly in negotiations to lead the series.
The eight-episode thriller comes from Homeland creator Gideon Raff, who will serve as executive producer and showrunner, according to Deadline.
Adapted from Dan Fesperman’s 2018 novel of the same name, 'Safe Houses' unfolds in the aftermath of the assassination of a senior CIA officer in Madrid. The story centers on Sofia Jimenez, a fugitive agent accused of murder, and Ambassador Elizabeth Winthrop, the slain officer’s widow.
As they pursue separate investigations from opposing sides, both women begin to uncover a sweeping conspiracy that threatens to destabilize the global balance of power, as reported by Deadline.
If the deal is finalized, the series would mark de Armas’ first major television role. She was most recently seen in Lionsgate’s Ballerina, a spin-off of the John Wick franchise, starring opposite Keanu Reeves, and has also signed on for J Blakeson’s upcoming film Sweat.
Connelly would return to Apple TV following her role alongside Joel Edgerton in the sci-fi drama Dark Matter. On the big screen, she was last seen in the blockbuster 'Top Gun: Maverick'.
'Safe Houses' is a co-production between Apple Studios and global independent studio Wiip. Otto Bathurst, known for Peaky Blinders, will direct the opening block of episodes, while Raff will helm additional installments.
According to Deadline, Raff will executive produce alongside Alexandra Milchan, with Paul Lee and David Flynn serving as executive producers for Wiip. Sara Gonzalo will produce, and author Dan Fesperman will act as consulting producer.
