Jason Isaacs, Sigourney Weaver confirmed for 'Tomb Raider' series

Los Angeles, Jan 7 (UNI) Phoebe Waller-Bridge's long-in-development "Tomb Raider" television adaptation has unveiled a significant casting update, confirming Jason Isaacs and Sigourney Weaver in pivotal roles as the project gathers momentum.
After weeks of industry chatter, it has now been confirmed that Isaacs will step into the role of Atlas DeMornay, a character drawn from the franchise's established mythology. Weaver will portray Evelyn Wallis, a powerful, inscrutable figure whose keen interest in Lara Croft appears driven by ambition as much as intrigue.
The pair are confirmed alongside Sophie Turner, who is playing the lead. Angelina Jolie portrayed the same character in the Noughties movie franchise, reports DEADLINE.
The trio is joined by a wealth of new cast members. Martin Bobb-Semple will play Zip and Bill Paterson is Winston from the canon. From the Tomb Raider universe come Jack Bannon, who plays Gerry, John Heffernan, playing David, and Celebrity Traitors UK alum Celia Imrie, who is Francine. There are also roles for Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed and August Wittgenstein.
Based on the globally successful video game franchise, the series follows the globe-trotting exploits of Lara Croft, one of pop culture's most enduring action heroines. Netflix has a rival animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, which stars Hayley Atwell and just aired its second and final season.
“Tomb Raider boasts a plethora of iconic characters,” said Waller-Bridge. “I am thrilled to have been able to bring some personal and fan favourites to the screen while also introducing a few new rascals of our own to the mix. This cast is beyond my wildest dreams.”
Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) is creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge as co-showrunner and executive producer; they are joined by Jonathan Van Tulleken who will serve as director and executive producer.
The series is executive produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Films, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson through Story Kitchen, Michael Scheel, and Legendary Television. It is co-executive produced by Matt McInnis and Jan R. Martin as producers.
