Jamie-Lynn Sigler shares 25-year battle with multiple sclerosis publicly

Los Angeles, Jan 19 (UNI) Jamie-Lynn Sigler opened up about her 25-year journey with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), revealing that she kept her diagnosis private for years to avoid jeopardising her career, according to Variety.
In a recent emotional interview with ABC, Sigler discussed her guest appearance on Grey’s Anatomy, where she played Dr. Laura Kaplan, a urologist living with MS. She described the role as deeply personal, reflecting her own experience with the condition.
"To think back 25 years ago when I was diagnosed and having to keep it a secret, thinking that if anybody knew that I had MS, that meant that I would never work again and to now be in a position where my having MS inspired a role in a storyline on a show like Grey’s Anatomy, I never would have believed you," Sigler told ABC, as quoted by Variety.
Diagnosed at age 20 while working on HBO’s The Sopranos, Sigler did not publicly disclose her condition until 2017, when she spoke with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Her Grey’s Anatomy episode, which aired on January 15, features Dr. Kaplan advising Dr. Richard Webber, played by James Pickens Jr., on treating his prostate cancer. Sigler shared that filming her first scene where she openly states, “I have MS,” was highly emotional.
She said her goal in portraying the character was to show someone living with MS in their power, offering an authentic and inspiring depiction of thriving despite the condition.
