Jamie Dornan to essay the role of Aragorn in 'Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum'

Los Angeles, Apr 16 (UNI) Warner Bros. has unveiled fresh casting details for "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum", with Jamie Dornan set to portray Strider, the alias of Aragorn, bringing a new interpretation to a role immortalised by Viggo Mortensen in the original trilogy.
Andy Serkis, who is directing, will reprise his role of Gollum, with Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen returning as Frodo and Gandalf. Lee Pace is also back as Thranduil. Earlier, it was reported that Kate Winslet will be joining the film in the role of Marigol, reports DEADLINE.
"The Hunt For Gollum" is set during the "The Fellowship of the Ring" era, shortly before Frodo Baggins leaves the Shire for Rivendell. The film starts with Gandalf sending Aragorn on a quest to find Gollum, fearing the creature may reveal vital information about the One Ring to Sauron's forces. The film is supposed to fill in a key gap in the timeline leading up to the events of 'Fellowship.'
Tolkien originally wrote the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy in the 1950s following the success of "The Hobbit" in 1937. Jackson adapted "The Lord of the Rings" into three films in 2001, 2002 and 2003 and later stretched "The Hobbit" into its own film trilogy in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
It's not the only "Lord of the Rings" movie on the horizon either, as Stephen Colbert is writing a second film alongside Philippa Boyens and Peter McGee, under the working title "The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past". That movie will come after Hunt for Gollum and does not yet have a director attached.
Philippa Boyens, Fran Walsh, Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou penned The Hunt for Gollum's script, with Jackson, Boyens, Walsh and Zane Weiner set to produce. The film is slated for release on December 17, 2027. UNI NST CDS
