Jai Ram Thakur flags alleged discrepancies in state borrowing data

Shimla, Feb 19 (UNI)Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur on Tuesday raised concerns over what he described as inconsistencies in the Chief Minister’s statements regarding the state’s borrowings and repayments, alleging that conflicting figures have been presented in the Assembly on multiple occasions.
Thakur pointed to discrepancies between data cited during discussions on February 18, 2026, a written reply tabled in August 2025, and provisions outlined in the 2025–26 Budget, claiming that the numbers did not align. He questioned how substantial repayments could have been made in a short period if corresponding budgetary provisions were not clearly reflected.
Speaking at a press conference in Shimla on Thursday, Thakur stressed that transparency in financial matters is essential to maintain public trust. He acknowledged that government borrowing is not unusual but emphasized that clarity and consistency in presenting fiscal data are critical.
