ISWAI urges immediate review of Maha’s steep excise duty hike on IMFL

Mumbai, July 10 (UNI) The International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI), the apex body representing the premium Indian alcoholic beverage sector, today raised strong apprehensions over the Maharashtra government’s recent decision to impose a sharp increase in excise duty on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).
The announcement has triggered widespread concern among stakeholders in the state’s alco-beverage industry.
Prices of IMFL are set to rise by up to 65 percent with the price of a 180 ml bottle expected to increase by Rs 100–130, a move that industry experts fear will have far-reaching economic and social consequences, said a release issued by ISWAI.
