Ireland secure super six spot in U19-W World Cup

Johor (Malaysia), Jan 22 (UNI) In a thrilling conclusion to their group stage campaign, Ireland secured a coveted spot in the Super Six of the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup after a nail-biting encounter with Pakistan. The match, held in Johor, was delayed by rain, yet Ireland’s resilience in the face of adversity sealed their advancement.
Despite a turbulent history with rain-affected fixtures, including a heartbreaking DLS loss to India in the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, Ireland has shown a knack for overcoming tough situations. This match added to that legacy, echoing their famous 2007 victory over Pakistan at the Men's Cricket World Cup in Jamaica.
As rain threatened to derail the game, the Irish team held on to hope. After two hours of uncertainty, the match was reduced to nine overs per side, and Ireland was tasked with posting a competitive total. Captain Niamh MacNulty, having won the toss, elected to bat first despite threatening skies.
