Iran says draft US agreement does not require surrendering control of Strait of Hormuz

Tehran, Jun 12 (UNI) Iran's state news agency has rejected suggestions that the proposed US-Iran MOU would require Tehran to relinquish control over the Strait of Hormuz, with the nation's official IRNA news agency reporting that the current draft text contains no provision which require the Islamic Republic to either hand over management of the strategic waterway, or restore shipping to pre-war levels.
"Iran makes no commitment in this text to cede the management of the strait or the restoration of conditions that existed prior to the American and Israeli military aggression," IRNA said, referring to what it described as the broad outlines of the draft agreement.
The state media report comes a day after US President Donald Trump claimed that a "great settlement of the war" had been reached between both parties, and announced that he had cancelled planned military strikes against Iran, with the formal signing ceremony expected to take place soon.
