Infosys lays off 700 recruits after months: NITES

Mysuru, Feb 7 (UNI) In a disturbing development, Infosys has reportedly initiated the termination of approximately 700 campus recruits who were onboarded in October 2024.
"In a shocking and unethical move, Infosys has begun forcefully laying off around 700 campus recruits who were onboarded just a few months ago in October 2024," Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) President Harpreet Singh Saluja said in a statement on Friday.
These employees, he said, had previously experienced a two-year delay after receiving their offer letters, with their eventual onboarding facilitated through the efforts of the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) and the affected candidates.
According to complaints received by NITES, the company has allegedly summoned these employees to meeting rooms at its Mysuru campus, where they are being pressured into signing "mutual separation" agreements.
Saluja said that security personnel have been deployed to prevent employees from carrying mobile phones, limiting their ability to document the proceedings or seek assistance.
When questioned about the rationale behind this mass layoff, Infosys HR officials reportedly responded that the company had never asked the employees to wait for two years, a statement perceived by many as lacking empathy. The affected employees have allegedly been given an ultimatum to vacate the premises by the evening, without prior notice, severance packages, or support.
NITES has announced plans to file an official complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, citing potential violations of Indian labour laws, including the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947. They are demanding immediate intervention and strict action against Infosys.
As of now, Infosys has not released an official statement regarding these allegations. The situation continues to develop, and further updates are anticipated.
