Indian Railways to hike passenger fares from July 1

New Delhi, June 24 (UNI) The Indian Railways is likely to increase the fares of its long-distance passengers from July 1.
The Indian Railways has decided to increase the fares of Mail Express trains by 1 paisa per km for sleeper class and 2 paise per km for AC classes from July 1.

According to sources, there will be no increase in the rate of general unreserved class tickets for distance up to 500 km, while for distance beyond 500 km, the fare rate is proposed to be increased by half paisa per km. Similarly, there will be no increase in the rates of suburban and monthly or quarterly season tickets.
It is noteworthy that the passenger fares of the railway were last increased in the year 2014. The increase in fares was affected by 14.2 per cent and 6.5 per cent in all classes of passenger fares with effect from June 25 that year.
In the year 2019, the passengers in the unreserved class in Mail Express trains were increased by 2 paise per kilometer. The fare for sleeper class has been increased by 2 paise and for first class by 2 paise. The fare for second class trains was increased by 01 paisa per km and for sleeper class by 01 paise. While the fare of the first class was increased by 1 paise. The fare was increased by a uniform 0.4 paise per kilometer in all AC classes. This increase came into effect from January 2020.
