India working to arrive at trade deal with US; but our red lines have to be respected: EAM

New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today said that India is working to arrive at a trade deal with the United States, but emphasised that it has to be one where India’s “red lines are respected”.
In comments during a discussion at the Kautilya Economic Enclave, the EAM also acknowledged that a major reason for India and the US not being able to arrive at a “landing ground” for the trade deal is due to the 50 percent tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.
“I deal in a world of realities, and my reality is of 25 and 25 – 50 percent tariff; and that is what right now we are negotiating. At the end of the day, whatever happens, there has got to be trade understanding with the United States. One, because it is the world’s largest market, and also because much of the world has reached those understandings.”
