India, South Africa Share British Colonial Common Legacy: Pathania

Shimla, Mar 9 (UNI) South Africa’s High Commissioner to India Anil Sooklal, called on Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania at the Assembly Secretariat here on Monday and discussed strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties between the two countries.
Sooklal arrived at the Legislative Assembly at around 4 pm along with his wife Dr. Nelistera Sooklal Singh and South Africa’s Deputy High Commissioner, Cedric C. Crowley. The Speaker warmly welcomed the visiting delegation and honoured them with a traditional Himachali cap, shawl and bouquet. Assembly Secretary Yashpal Sharma was also present on the occasion.
During the interaction, Pathania highlighted the historic relations between India and South Africa, noting that the two nations share a common legacy of British colonial rule and are today republic members of the Commonwealth of Nations. He said relations between the two countries strengthened significantly after the end of apartheid in South Africa in 1994, leading to deeper strategic, cultural, diplomatic and commercial cooperation.

Shopkeeper shot at in Rohtak, critical after bullet pierces neck and cheek

Chandigarh, April 11 (UNI) A shopkeeper was left critically injured on Saturday morning after an unidentified assailant opened fire at him inside his store in Rohtak, Haryana, police said.
The victim, identified as Praveen, runs a cement and iron rod business under the name Rajlakshmi Cement-Sariya on Gohana Road. He was shot at point-blank range around 9:30 am.
