India showcases Kalinga Stadium in bid to host World Athletics Indoor Championships 2028

Bhubaneswar, Jan 21 (UNI) A high-level delegation from World Athletics and the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on Wednesday visited Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium as India intensifies its bid to host the World Athletics Indoor Championships in 2028.
The officials toured the Indoor Athletic Centre and other state-of-the-art facilities within the Kalinga Stadium complex.
Odisha Sports Minister Suryavanshi Suraj highlighted the state’s readiness to host international sporting events, citing strong fan support and proven organizational experience.

Australia batting first against India in second T20I

Canberra, Feb 19 (UNI) Australia have been put into bat first in the second T20I in Canberra, with Harmanpreet Kaur winning the toss on a milestone night for the India captain.
Molineux lost her second successive toss since taking over as Australia T20I skipper, and it was no surprise Harmanpreet stuck with the formula that worked well for her team on Sunday, again opting to chase.
Australia have named an unchanged XI as they look to bounce back from that 21-run (DLS) defeat, again leaving co-vice-captain Tahlia McGrath, Megan Schutt and Grace Harris on the bench.

West Indies beat Italy to extend winning streak in T20 World Cup

Kolkata, Feb 19 (UNI) West Indies defeated Italy by 42 runs at the Eden Gardens here on Thursday to remain unbeaten in the group stage of the T20 World Cup.
Bidding to exit the World Cup on a high, a spirited performance from the Italian team saw them restrict West Indies to 165/6. But with Matthew Forde spearheading the attack, the Italian chase failed to take off, and eventually folded at 123 in 18 overs.

Fonseca, Marcelo dominate Rio Open doubles, advance to next round

Rio de Janeiro, Feb 19 (UNI) Brazilian pair Joao Fonseca and Marcelo Melo delighted the home crowd with a dominant 6-4, 6-0 win over second seeds Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni to advance at the Rio Open.
Competing as wild cards in the ATP 500 tournament, the Brazilian duo produced an impressive serving display, landing 82 per cent of their first serves and winning 84 per cent of those points, according to the ATP Tour website.
