India rebuts President Trump's claim that US promised 'a lot of trade' in exchange for ceasefire agreement

New Delhi, May 12 (UNI) India today rebutted US President Donald Trump’s claim that America had promised India and Pakistan “a lot of trade” if they stopped the hostilities, and said there was “no reference to trade” in any of their discussions with the US side.
Sources said that “After Operation Sindoor commenced, Vice President JD Vance spoke to Prime Minister Modi on May 9.
“US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke to External Affairs Minister on May 8 and May 10, and to National Security Advisor on May 10.
“There was no reference to trade in any of these discussions,” the sources added.
Notably, President Trump, in a media statement today, said that the US “helped a lot”, in getting the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan on May 10.
“And we helped also with trade. I said ‘come on we’re going to do a lot of trade with you guys, let’s stop it, let’s stop it” (referring to the hostilities).
“If you stop it, we’re doing trade, if you don’t stop it we’re not going to do any trade,
“People have never used trade the way I have.
“And all of a sudden, they said, I think we’re gonna stop.
“And they have, and they did it for a lot of reasons but trade is a big one.
“We’re gonna do a lot of trade with Pakistan, and a lot of trade with India
“We’re negotiating with India right now, were gonna soon be negotiating with Pakistan.
“And we stopped a nuclear conflict, I think it could have been a bad nuclear war.
Millions of people could have been killed
“I’m proud of that, I also want to thank VP Vance and Secretary Rubio for their work and efforts, they worked very hard.”
