India, Mauritius elevate ties to Enhanced Strategic Partnership, after PM Modi-Navin Ramgoolam talks

Port Louis/New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) India and Mauritius decided to elevate their ties to Enhanced Strategic Partnership, and inked eight MoUs including in financial crime prevention, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Mauritian counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam held bilateral talks in Port Louis today.
The two prime ministers also inaugurated 20 High Impact Community Development Projects, and an India-assisted Civil Service College in Reduit which has been named after former Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
PM Modi said in posts on X after the talks:
“On the special occasion of Mauritius’ National Day, I had the opportunity to meet my good friend, PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam and discuss the full range of India-Mauritius friendship. We have decided to raise our partnership to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership.
“We talked about how we can work together in areas such as infrastructure, housing, digital technology, health and more. We also want to cover more ground in areas like AI, capacity building and sustainable growth.”
“PM Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam and I jointly inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation. It will serve as a hub for learning, research and public service, fostering new ideas and leadership for the future. It also strengthens our shared commitment to progress and development,” the PM posted.
The MEA spokesperson wrote on X:
“Strengthening cooperation, expanding horizons!
“PM @narendramodi & PM @Ramgoolam_Dr held delegation-level talks, reviewing key areas of our bilateral partnership.
“Both leaders affirmed to upgrade ties to Enhanced Strategic Partnership.”
On the joint inauguration of India-assisted projects, the spokesperson wrote:
“Committed partners in education & capacity building.
“PM @narendramodi & PM @Ramgoolam_Dr jointly inaugurated the India-assisted Civil Service College in Reduit, Mauritius.
“As a tribute to his legacy & efforts to strengthen India-Mauritius relations, the institute has been named after former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
“The institute is a Centre of Excellence for enhancing training opportunities for Mauritian civil servants. PM also engaged with ITEC & GoI scholarship alumni, whose contributions continue to strengthen the India-Mauritius partnership.”
“Together, PM @narendramodi & PM @Ramgoolam_Dr e-inaugurated 20 High-Impact Community Development Projects and an India-assisted Area Health Centre (AHC).
“These initiatives will bolster Mauritius’ healthcare & grassroots infrastructure, bringing tangible benefits to the people.
“A significant moment as 8 MoUs were exchanged in areas including financial crime prevention, SMEs, public service capacity building, maritime security, and local currency trade. A navigational chart of St Brandon Island was also handed over.”
“PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to Mauritius’ development by announcing support for:
*Phase II of High-Impact Community Development Projects
*Construction of a new Parliament Building for Mauritius.”
