India has highest number of renal patients in world: Dr Purohit

Pune, March 10 (UNI) India has the highest number of renal patients in the world, with 10 per cent of Indian population being affected by Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and it may soon be 5th leading cause of death in India, warned an expert today.
Two lakh patients in the country die annually due to a lack of awareness of kidney disease, said Dr Naresh Purohit, senior epidemiologist and Principal Investigator of the Association of Studies for Kidney Care, in a release here.
