India Greens Party demands Gairsain to be made permanent capital of U'khand

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) The India Greens Party (IGP) on Thursday expressed disappointment over the BJP-led Uttarakhand government's decision to declare the town of Gairsain as merely summer capital despite being a long-pending demand of the people of hill state to permanently shift its capital from the present-day Dehradun.
Gairsain -- a nondescript town some 280 km away from the interim capital of Dehradun nestling in the eastern edge of the vast Dudhatoli mountain range in the district of Chamoli was announced as the summer capital by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat while delivering the Budget speech at Gairsain Vidhan Sabha Bhavan on Wednesday.
"The state government’s decision did not meet the expectations of the majority of citizens in the state as they have been demanding for a long time to make Gairsain as state’s permanent capital," IGP president Suresh Nautiyal said as quoted in a press release.
