New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) The opposition INDIA bloc on Saturday swept the bypolls held on July 10 across seven states winning 10 of the 13 assembly seats while the BJP managed to get two seats and one seat went to Independent in Bihar.
In West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress secured a sweeping victory by capturing all four seats by a significant margin.
Trinamool Congress candidate Supti Pandey defeated BJP Kayan Chaubey by a margin of over 62,312 votes from Maniktala Assembly constituency. In Bagda constituency in North 24 Parganas district, Trinamool’s Madhuparna Thakur defeated BJP’s Binay Kumar Biswas by a margin of 33,455 votes.
In Ranaghat Dakshin Assembly constituency in Nadia district Trinamool’s Mukut Mani Adhikari defeated BJP’s Manoj Kumar Biswas by a margin of 39,048 votes.
TMC leader Krishna Kalyani defeated BJP leader Manas Kumar Ghosh by over 50,000 votes in the Raiganj seat.
In Himachal Pradesh, the Congress won two out of three seats, notably with Kamlesh Thakur, wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu, emerging victorious in Dehra. She defeated BJP candidate Hoshyar Singh by a margin of 9,399 votes. Congress candidate Hardeep Singh Bawa has also won from Nalagarh seat in Himachal Pradesh defeating KL Thakur of the BJP by about 8,900 votes. The BJP candidate Ashish Sharma defeated Congress leader Pushpinder Verma by about 1500 votes in the Hamirpur seat.
In Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Mohinder Bhagat won Jalandhar West bypoll defeating Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sheetal Angural by over 37000 votes amidst a competitive triangular contest.
In Uttarakhand, Congress succeeded in securing both the Badrinath and Manglaur assembly seats. Congress candidate Qazi Mohammad Nizammudin won the Manglaur seat by a narrow margin of 400 votes, while Lakhapat Singh Butola triumphed in Badrinath, defeating BJP candidate Rajendra Bhandari by over 5,000 votes.
In Madhya Pradesh, BJP’s Kamlesh Shah won the Amarwara (ST) seat by a margin of over 3,200 votes after trailing in a number of rounds. Shah defeated his nearest Congress rival Dheeran Shah Invati by a margin of 3,252 votes.
In a decisive victory, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate Anniyur Siva secured 124,053 votes, a massive margin of 67,757 over runner-up Anbumani C. from Pattali Makkal Katchi in Vikravandi constituency. The bye-election saw a total of 20 candidates, with the DMK retaining the seat.
The voting was held in 13 Assembly constituencies across seven states including four in West Bengal, three in Himachal Pradesh, two in Uttarakhand, and one each in Bihar, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
