IMD issues heatwave alert in Maharashtra; monsoon may arrive early

Pune, May 13 ( UNI): As summer intensifies across Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions in several districts of Vidarbha, Marathwada, and parts of central Maharashtra.
Amid the rising temperatures, favourable weather conditions are reportedly developing over the South Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the onset of the southwest monsoon. According to the IMD, the monsoon is likely to reach the region by the end of this week, indicating an early arrival this year.
Earlier forecasts had suggested that rainfall during the season could remain slightly below average due to the impact of the El Niño phenomenon.
