IIT Ropar, Rocket Learning ink MoU to boost

Bengaluru, June 9 (UNI) The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ed-tech nonprofit Rocket Learning to strengthen early childhood education in India through artificial intelligence and technology-enabled training systems.
The partnership aims to upskill frontline public workers and caregivers involved in foundational learning, particularly Anganwadi educators and parents, by combining IIT Ropar’s research and technical expertise with Rocket Learning’s large-scale grassroots outreach across the country.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, and Azeez Gupta, Co-Founder, Rocket Learning, in the presence of Dr. Sarang Gumfekar, Dean, IIT Ropar, and Namya Mahajan, Co-Founder, Rocket Learning.
Prof. Ahuja said early childhood development remains one of the most under-resourced yet impactful areas of social investment, adding that the collaboration aims to build a generation of skilled caregivers capable of transforming children’s life outcomes through better foundational support.
Dr. Gumfekar said IIT Ropar is committed to contributing to India’s development trajectory by working with civil society, government and communities to make advanced technology and learning tools accessible to underserved sections.
Rocket Learning co-founders Azeez Gupta and Namya Mahajan said the partnership brings institutional strength to their mission of using AI and technology for large-scale social impact, noting the transformative role of trained caregivers in shaping children’s futures.
Early childhood development, covering children from birth to six years, is widely recognised as a critical window for cognitive and foundational skill formation, though it remains under-resourced in India. The MoU seeks to address this gap through scalable digital training and support systems.
Under the collaboration, IIT Ropar and Rocket Learning will jointly develop technology-enabled training modules and support tools for Anganwadi workers and other frontline caregivers, aligning with IIT Ropar’s broader focus on socially relevant research and innovation.
Rocket Learning currently operates across 16 states and union territories and more than 200 districts, reaching about 6 million children through 500,000 classrooms and 400,000 Anganwadi educators, with a target of impacting 50 million underserved children by 2030.
