IEM launches eastern India's first private cloud computing lab in Kolkata

Kolkata, Feb 28 (UNI) The Institute of Engineering & Management Innovation Entrepreneurship Developmental Cell (IEDC)—CSE on Wednesday unveiled eastern India's first private cloud computing lab to shape the future of computing infrastructure in this region.
The Aneka Private Cloud is equipped with a robust 540+ physical core cluster, 880 GB of RAM, and an expansive 9000 GB of storage capacity, solidifying the institution's dedication to technological progress. The collaboration was carried out closely with the University of Melbourne. Along with this, IEDC-CSE also hosted a panel discussion on cloud, IoT, and AI trends.
The panel discussion shared insights into the latest trends shaping the landscape of cloud computing, AI, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The interactive discussions were facilitated by industry experts and thought leaders, including Dr. Satyajit Chakrabarti, Director, Institute of Engineering & Management; Debjit Mookherjee, Head of IoT & Advanced Industries; Debasis Satapathy, Additional Director, STPI Kolkata; Abhijan Bhattacharyya, Chief Scientist, Tata Consultancy Services; Zeahan Khan, OSD Webel;and Dr. Sanmitra Sarkar, GM of Artificial Intelligence at IBM, provided a deeper understanding of the convergence of these technologies and their transformative potential across diverse sectors.
The institution has invested Rs. 8.20 crore for this ground-breaking initiative, which is set to benefit 6,000 students across B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. programs. The focus lies on shared research interests, specifically in resource management and application scheduling in cloud and edge computing environments.
The infrastructure aims to explore the transformative potential of cloud computing, AI, and IoT for industries and society. It will also create job opportunities for the students as cloud solutions architects, IoT and AI developers, data scientists, cybersecurity specialists, and more, poised to make a meaningful impact in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
Director, Institute of Engineering & Management, Dr. Satyajit Chakrabarty, said that the private cloud, with its robust infrastructure, signifies our dedication to shaping the future of computing in Eastern India, which will benefit 6,000 students as well as create job opportunities in the fields of cloud computing, AI, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
