ICAR adopts Nongspung A as Northeast’s first model poultry cluster village

Umiam, Nov 12 (UNI) In a major step towards strengthening rural livelihoods and promoting scientific poultry farming in rural Meghalaya, the ICAR Research Complex for the North Eastern Hill (NEH) Region has adopted Nongspung A village in Ri Bhoi district as Northeast India’s first Model Poultry Cluster Village.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed on Tuesday at the ICAR-NEH headquarters in Umiam between the institute and the Dorbar of Nongspung A village.
Nestled along the northern periphery of Ri Bhoi district, Nongspung A is a small village that had long remained on the margins of development since Meghalaya’s formation in 1972. For decades, the community struggled with a lack of basic infrastructure and sustainable livelihood sources
