Hrithik Roshan calls for safety measures at construction sites

Mumbai, Feb 16 (UNI) Actor Hrithik Roshan has expressed anguish over the fatal pillar collapse in Mumbai’s Mulund area, describing the incident as “heartbreaking and traumatic” and calling for stricter enforcement of safety norms at construction sites.
The accident took place near the Johnson & Johnson factory on LBS Road when a parapet segment from the under-construction Mumbai Metro Line 4 fell onto moving vehicles. Ramdhan Yadav lost his life after debris crushed an autorickshaw, while three others were injured in the incident.
Sharing his condolences on social media, Roshan said he hopes “strict measures are taken” to prevent similar tragedies in the future. While he acknowledged the swift steps taken by authorities to fix accountability, he emphasized that safety must remain a top priority, especially amid large-scale infrastructure work across Mumbai’s busiest roads.
“Heartbreaking and traumatic. My condolences to the family of the deceased and prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he wrote. “I commend the swift action taken by the authorities to ensure accountability, but the need for safety checks and prevention of such accidents is a priority… Safety of the construction workers and common people is of paramount importance, and I hope strict measures are taken to ensure guidelines and protocols are in place to avoid such incidents in the future.”
He underscored that both construction workers and daily commuters deserve adequate protection, echoing growing public concern over compliance with safety regulations at major infrastructure sites.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the collapse occurred around 12:15 pm on February 14 and also damaged a car. One of the injured remains in critical condition, while two others are reported to be stable.
Police have arrested five employees associated with the contractor firms managing the project, and an FIR has been filed under sections pertaining to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Investigations are currently underway.
Meanwhile, Devendra Fadnavis announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for the deceased’s family. Authorities are reviewing on-site procedures and responsibilities as part of the probe.
The incident has once again sparked debate over urban planning, oversight and the human cost of rapid development in India’s financial capital, with many agreeing that progress must not come at the expense of public safety.
