HP HC halts State’s move to take over Baira Siul Hydro Project

Shimla, Apr 25 (UNI) Single Bench of Himachal Pradesh High Court comprising Justice Ajay Mohan Goyal stayed the state government's move to take over the 180 MW Baira Siul Hydro Power Project, currently operated by NHPC.
This interim order comes after a petition by NHPC, which is contesting the state’s takeover bid.
The Baira Siul project, commissioned in 1980-81, was to be returned to the state after 40 years, as per the original agreement. With the completion of this period, the state initiated steps to reclaim the project. However, NHPC has contested this, claiming perpetual ownership after modernizing the project in August 2021.
