HP Guv & CM pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 154th birth anniversary

Shimla, Oct 2 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 154th birth anniversary at the statue of Father of the Nation at Ridge here on Monday.

The Governor on this occasion, reflected on the enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. He highlighted Gandhi Ji's unwavering commitment to truth and non-violence, which has become the cornerstone of his life's work.
Shukla praised Gandhi Ji for his deep-rooted connection to Indian traditions, marked by integrity and simplicity. He stressed how Mahatma Gandhi's principles of Swadeshi, Swaraj, self-reliance and cleanliness continue to inspire us all.

The Chief Minister emphasized the profound impact of Gandhi Ji's non-violent approach on the freedom struggle. He underlined how Gandhi Ji's leadership and dedication to non-violence played a pivotal role in India's struggle for independence.
Sukhu called upon the citizens to draw inspiration from Gandhi Ji's ideals and incorporate them into their lives as a genuine tribute.

The Governor and the Chief Minister also visited the photo exhibition which is based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.

Later, the Governor and the Chief Minister also paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at CTO Chowk on his 119th birth anniversary.
“Shastri Ji inspired the country to make it self-reliant by giving the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’.
The former PM's integrity, humility and simplicity will always inspire all the countrymen”, said Shukla.

“When there was a shortage of food in the country, Shastri ji gave the slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' and inspired us to move towards self-reliance. He was an embodiment of simplicity who gave the message of duty to the country”, said the Chief Minister.

Patriotic songs and bhajans were also recited on the occasion.
